Career & Salary · 2026GCC Salary in India 2026: What Global Capability Centres Pay by Experience and Role
GCC salary in India runs roughly 6 to 12 LPA at entry, 14 to 24 LPA at 3 to 5 years and 24 to 38 LPA at 6 to 9 years for engineering roles in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, typically 12 to 35 percent above comparable Indian IT services pay. That gap comes from global job architecture, not generosity.
- The premium is real, and smaller than LinkedIn suggests. Benchmarks and advertised listings put captive centre pay 12 to 35 percent above Indian IT services at the same experience, not double it.
- Your grade sets your band, not your years. Most GCCs import the parent's global grade ladder and benchmark each grade locally, so a grade jump moves money and an anniversary does not.
- AI and data skills are the entry ticket. The Zinnov-Nasscom India GCC Landscape Report 2026 says 64 percent of new GCC roles now ask for AI, data science or intelligent automation skills.
- Increments have split in two. The EY Future of Pay report projects about 10.4 percent for GCCs in 2026, while Aon's 2025-26 survey projects 6.6 percent for technology consulting and services.
- Bengaluru is still the centre of gravity, with roughly a third of India's GCC units and the largest concentration of AI and platform roles.
- The variable split is where offers disappoint. A 28 LPA offer with a 20 percent target bonus is not 28 LPA in your account, and the bonus tracks a global business result you cannot influence.
- Nobody is hired for a certification alone. A credential gets you read; a system you built and can defend in 20 minutes gets you the band.
Your increment letter this year said 7.2 percent, and a recruiter has just messaged you about a captive centre role at a US retailer where the posted band starts roughly where your current CTC ends. The obvious question is whether the number is real. The more useful one is what the number is made of, because a GCC band is assembled in a completely different way from a service company band, and once you can see the mechanism you can tell which part of it you are able to move.
What a GCC is, and why it pays off a different scale
A Global Capability Centre is a multinational's own in-house technology and operations arm in India. Not a vendor, not a contractor, not an outsourcing partner: the same company, with an Indian address and the same internal grade ladder as the office in Seattle or Zurich. Walmart Global Tech, Target in Bengaluru, Goldman Sachs in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, Shell, Lowe's and several hundred others are all GCCs.
That ownership is the whole story for your pay. In a service company your compensation is downstream of a billing rate: the client agrees a rate per person per month, the vendor takes its margin, and what is left funds your CTC, your bench time and your appraisal pool. Squeeze the rate and your increment shrinks. In a GCC there is no bill rate. There is a headcount budget, a global grade for the job, and a compensation team that benchmarks that grade against the Indian market at a target percentile, usually between the 50th and the 75th.
Where your number comes from in each model
Same global parent, two completely different ways of arriving at your CTC.
Structural model, not a pay quote. Compensation mechanics as described in public GCC and IT services salary benchmarking, checked 3 October 2026.
The practical consequence is counter-intuitive. In a service company you can often argue your way to a better number by threatening to leave, because retention is handled case by case. In a GCC that lever is weak, because your band is a written range and your manager genuinely cannot pay above it. The lever that works is a grade change, which is why the people who do well inside GCCs spend their energy on scope rather than on counter-offers.
GCC salary in India by experience in 2026
The bands below are advertised ranges for engineering, data, cloud and AI roles at captive MNC centres, weighted towards Bengaluru and Hyderabad because that is where most of the listings sit. They are what employers publish, not what any individual will be offered.
Advertised GCC pay by experience band
Midpoint of the advertised range, so read the spread in the table below rather than the bar alone.
Advertised ranges, not guarantees. Compiled 3 October 2026 from public listings and published GCC salary benchmarks for captive centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
| Experience | Advertised range (GCC, Bengaluru / Hyderabad) | Typical titles | What pushes you to the top of the band |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 2 years | Rs 6 to 12 LPA | Associate engineer, analyst, SDE-1 | One deployed project you can demo, SQL depth, a cloud fundamentals credential |
| 3 to 5 years | Rs 14 to 24 LPA | SDE-2, data engineer, cloud engineer | Production ownership of one platform, an associate-level cloud or data certification |
| 6 to 9 years | Rs 24 to 38 LPA | Senior engineer, tech lead, MLOps engineer | System design at scale, domain depth in BFSI, retail or healthcare, on-call track record |
| 10 to 14 years | Rs 38 to 65 LPA | Staff engineer, engineering manager, architect | Mapping to a higher global grade, stock component, multi-team scope |
| 15+ years | Rs 60 LPA upwards, with a long tail past 1 crore | Principal engineer, senior manager, centre leadership | Global ownership rather than India delivery, and genuine scarcity of the skill |
Collection basis: advertised ranges gathered on 3 October 2026 from public job listings on Naukri, LinkedIn, Indeed and Glassdoor India for captive MNC centres, cross-checked against published 2026 GCC salary benchmarks. Ranges describe what is advertised across many employers and are not an offer, an average or a projection for any individual.
GCC jobs for freshers in India: the honest version
Entry-level GCC hiring is the narrowest door in this market. Most captive centres take freshers through a few campus partnerships and a handful of structured early-career programmes, and the lateral market at 0 to 2 years is thin, because there is no business case for a GCC to train someone a service company will train for them. At 11 months of experience the realistic path is two to three years in a service company or a mid-size product firm, picking up the skills the GCC postings name, then a lateral move at the 3 to 5 year band where the premium is widest. Less satisfying than "apply to Walmart". It is what the listing volume supports.
GCC salary in India vs service and product companies
Here is the same person, a cloud or data engineer with 4 to 6 years, priced by four different kinds of employer. The pay is only half the comparison; the increment signal in the fourth column is the part people forget, because it compounds.
| Employer type | Advertised fixed pay, 4 to 6 yrs | Variable and equity | 2026 increment signal | What the interview tests hardest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indian IT services | Rs 9 to 16 LPA | 5 to 10 percent variable, stock rare | Aon projects 6.6 percent for technology consulting and services | Breadth, client handling, availability |
| GCC (captive MNC centre) | Rs 16 to 28 LPA | 10 to 20 percent target bonus, RSUs from senior grades | EY's Future of Pay report projects about 10.4 percent for GCCs | Depth in one platform, system design, code quality |
| Indian product company | Rs 18 to 32 LPA | ESOPs, 10 to 15 percent bonus | Aon projects 9.4 percent for technology platform and products | Coding depth, product judgement, ownership |
| Funded startup | Rs 14 to 30 LPA | Heavy ESOP, thin or no bonus | Highly variable, often tied to the next round | Shipping speed, range across the stack |
| Consulting and Big Four technology | Rs 12 to 24 LPA | 10 to 15 percent bonus | Close to the 9.1 percent India average Aon projects for 2026 | Communication, certifications, structured problem solving |
Collection basis: advertised ranges from public listings checked 3 October 2026 for Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Gurugram. Increment projections are as reported from Aon's Annual Salary Increase and Turnover Survey 2025-26 India, which covers more than 1,400 organisations across 45 industries, and from the EY Future of Pay report. Projections describe sector averages, not individual outcomes.
GCC vs service based company: what the gap is actually buying
Between a GCC and a service based company the money is one difference and the shape of the work is the bigger one. In a GCC you usually own a narrow slice of one system for years, which builds the depth that interviews at the next level reward. In a service company you touch more technologies and more clients, which builds range and a tolerance for ambiguity that GCC engineers often lack. If you are three years in and still working out what you are good at, the service company is not the mistake the internet says it is. If you already know you want one platform, staying is costing you compounding, and the Aon numbers above show roughly how much.
One honest caveat about the premium. It is quoted at the mid-senior level, where the GCC pays for scarce depth. At the very top it inverts in places: Indian product companies and well-funded startups will outbid a captive centre for a principal engineer, because a GCC's India band is constrained by a global grade that a Bengaluru product company is not bound by.

What actually moves you to the top of a GCC band
Four things move the number. In rough order of how much they matter:
The skill the posting is built around. The Zinnov-Nasscom India GCC Landscape Report 2026 puts 64 percent of new GCC roles as requiring AI, data science or intelligent automation skills, and more than 1,200 India GCCs as having embedded AI and machine learning capability. That is not a vague trend, it is a filter on the shortlist. If the job description names retrieval augmented generation, vector search or agent orchestration and you have shipped none of it, you are competing on price with people who have. This is the gap 360DT's live AI Engineer course is built around: 100+ hours over 16 weeks spent building RAG pipelines and tool-using agents rather than reading about them.
Depth in one platform, documented. GCC loops are specific. A Microsoft-heavy centre will push on Microsoft Fabric and DP-700 territory: lakehouse design, incremental loads, what you do when a pipeline silently writes duplicates. An AWS-heavy centre will push on SAA-C03 and DOP-C02 ground: VPC design, blue-green deploys, why your Terraform plan wants to replace the database. Pick one and be unarguable in it.
Domain. A data engineer who understands reconciliation in a bank, or inventory in a retailer, is priced differently from one who only understands Spark. GCCs are captive arms of specific businesses, so domain is not a nice-to-have, it is half the job.
The certification, but only as a filter. Credentials get your profile past a screen and settle arguments about whether you really know a service. They do not set your band. Indian pricing for Microsoft exams is regional rather than a dollar conversion, which is worth knowing before you budget.
Numbers worth knowing before you plan the move

Global capability centre jobs in India: who is hiring, and for what
The hiring volume is the reason this pillar matters at all. India now hosts about 2,117 GCCs across roughly 3,728 individual centres, employing around 2.36 million people and booking 98.4 billion dollars of revenue in FY2026, according to the Zinnov-Nasscom India GCC Landscape Report 2026. TeamLease Digital data reported alongside it puts net GCC headcount addition in FY2026 at close to 200,000, against roughly 110,000 at IT services firms. Those two numbers together are the whole argument for looking at captive centres.
The GCC hiring market in 2026
Scale and skill mix, as published by named industry sources rather than inferred.
Industry projections for the market as a whole, not an indication of openings for any one role. Checked 3 October 2026.
Geography still concentrates. Published trackers put Bengaluru at roughly 34 to 39 percent of India's GCC units, with the heaviest AI and platform engineering mix; Hyderabad next and growing fastest among the tier-one cities, with a pharma and life sciences tilt; then Pune, Gurugram, Chennai and Ahmedabad. Recruiter commentary from Xpheno through 2026 has put active GCC openings in the 17,000 to 18,000 range month to month, which is the useful reality check: large and steady, not a gold rush with vacancies waiting for you.
By function the demand is lopsided. AI and machine learning is the fastest growing area, data engineering and analytics is the largest single cluster, and cloud with DevOps sits around a tenth of GCC hiring. Platform reliability work has quietly become the easiest door to walk through, because fewer people want to be on call. If you can run production, somebody in a captive centre wants to talk to you, and the MLOps engineer track built on AI-300 exists because that gap now shows up in machine learning teams too.

GCC postings keep naming AI skills. This course is where you build them.
The AI Engineer course teaches you to build agents that plan, use tools and act, certified on both Microsoft Copilot Studio and Claude Code, the two stacks real job postings are actually naming. Weekend evening batches mean you can train without leaving your current job.

How to read a GCC offer before you sign it
Go back to the developer from the top of this page. The captive centre offer arrives at 26 LPA against a current 11.5 LPA fixed, reads as a 126 percent jump, and gets screenshotted into a WhatsApp group within the hour. Then you open the annexure.
Four things to check, in order. First, the fixed versus variable split: a 20 percent target bonus on 26 LPA means about 21.7 LPA fixed and 4.3 LPA contingent on a global business metric decided in another country. Second, whether equity sits in your grade or begins one grade above, because recruiters describe the ladder and not your rung. Third, the joining bonus clawback period, usually 12 to 24 months. Fourth, the grade and the band around it. Ask plainly: "what grade is this role, and what is the range for that grade?" Many GCC recruiters will tell you, and the answer shows how much headroom you have before your only option is a promotion.
What usually goes wrong here is simpler than any of that. People compare a GCC fixed-plus-variable number against their current fixed-only number, accept, and then feel cheated in month 13 when the bonus pays out at 70 percent of target. Compare fixed to fixed. Treat variable as a bonus in the ordinary sense of the word.
- Do not say: "I have another offer at 30, can you match it?" The band will not bend for a bluff, and the recruiter has seen a hundred of them.
- Say instead: "Based on the scope we discussed, I was targeting the upper half of the band for this grade. Is there room at that end, and if not, is there flexibility on the joining bonus or the equity grant?"
- Then ask: "What would I need to demonstrate in the first two review cycles to be considered for the next grade?" You have now moved the conversation to the only lever that compounds.
What goes wrong with the GCC plan
- The door is narrower than the headline. Half a million projected hires across 2,100 centres includes finance, HR, procurement and operations. The engineering slice is smaller, and the slice at your experience level smaller again.
- Transitions run long. Six to nine months of preparation is a reasonable plan for a service-to-GCC move at the mid level. Twelve to eighteen months is common, usually because people study in parallel with a demanding delivery job and lose two months to a release.
- You can take a title cut on the way in. A service company "technical lead" with seven years often maps to an individual contributor grade in a GCC. Pay goes up, designation goes sideways, and that stings more than people expect.
- Some centres are cost centres. A captive centre doing maintenance for a parent that keeps all design decisions at HQ will pay better than your service company and teach you less. Ask in the interview who decides the architecture. The answer is diagnostic.
- Layoffs reach GCCs too. Captive centres are tied to one company's fortunes rather than a diversified client book, so when the parent restructures, the India centre is not insulated.
None of that means the move is wrong. It means the plan should assume nine months rather than three, and should not involve resigning before you have an offer in hand.
How to get a job in a GCC in India: a 90-day shortlist plan
This is the part you control. The sequence below assumes you are employed, have roughly 8 to 10 hours a week, and are targeting the 3 to 7 year lateral band where the premium is widest.
Days 1 to 15: pick the stack, not the company. Pull 20 live GCC postings for your target role in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. Count which tools appear in more than half. You will usually get one cloud, one orchestration tool, one warehouse or lakehouse and one of either dbt or Spark. That list is your curriculum, and it beats any generic roadmap.
Days 16 to 50: build one system, not five tutorials. One end-to-end thing, deployed, with infrastructure as code, monitoring and a README that explains a design decision you made and rejected. If your target is a data role, that means a pipeline with scheduling, data quality checks and a visible cost number. The PL-300 and Power BI track is the right starting point if your target sits closer to analytics, and the Fabric track if it sits closer to engineering.
Days 51 to 70: sit the exam. One associate-level certification, booked with a date, because an unbooked exam never happens. Which one depends on your target centre's stack, and the AZ-305 and AZ-400 path is the common answer for Microsoft-heavy GCCs.
Days 71 to 90: rewrite the resume around systems, then apply through people. A resume line a GCC screener responds to reads like this: "Rebuilt a 40-table ingestion pipeline on Microsoft Fabric, cut nightly run time from 4 hours to 55 minutes and added row-level data quality checks that caught 1,200 bad records in the first month." Numbers, system, outcome. Then find engineers already inside your three target centres and ask for a referral, because GCC referral pipelines are where a large share of lateral hiring actually happens.
An illustrative transition: service company developer to captive centre data engineer
The following is an illustrative composite built from typical market paths, not a real named person and not a 360DT outcome claim.
A 2019-batch Java and Spring Boot developer at a Pune service company, 5.5 years in, 11.5 LPA fixed, no cloud certification, 7.2 percent last increment. Target: data engineer at a retail or BFSI captive centre in Bengaluru or Pune.
Months 1 to 3 went on SQL depth and Python for data work, harder than expected because five years of application Java does not teach you window functions or why a query plan matters. Months 4 to 7 went on a Fabric lakehouse project, orchestration and one associate certification, at roughly 10 hours a week, with two weeks lost to a production release in month 5. Months 8 to 11 were applications and interviews: around 40 applications, 6 first rounds, 3 system design rounds, 2 rejections specifically on data modelling. The offer landed in month 12 at 19 LPA fixed plus a 15 percent target bonus, mapped to an individual contributor grade rather than the lead title held before. Fixed to fixed that is a jump of roughly 65 percent, inside the band this market advertises for a 5 to 6 year data engineer at a captive centre, and well below the 126 percent a CTC-to-CTC comparison would have implied.
Twelve months, not six. Two subjects that needed real study rather than revision. That is the shape of this move when it works.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good GCC salary in India in 2026?
For engineering, data and AI roles, advertised GCC salary in India sits around 6 to 12 LPA at 0 to 2 years, 14 to 24 LPA at 3 to 5 years, 24 to 38 LPA at 6 to 9 years and 38 to 65 LPA at 10 to 14 years, weighted to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. A number near the top of your band usually means scarce skills plus domain depth, not seniority alone. These are advertised ranges across many employers, not guarantees.
Do GCCs really pay more than Indian IT service companies?
Published benchmarks and advertised listings put the gap at roughly 12 to 35 percent for equivalent mid-senior roles, widest at 4 to 9 years. The increment signal differs too: the EY Future of Pay report projects about 10.4 percent for GCCs in 2026 while Aon projects 6.6 percent for technology consulting and services. At principal level the gap narrows and sometimes reverses, because Indian product companies are not bound by a global grade band.
Can freshers get into a GCC in India?
Some do, mostly through campus partnerships and structured early-career programmes, and the advertised entry band is roughly 6 to 12 LPA. The lateral market at 0 to 2 years is thin, so the more common route is two to three years at a service company or mid-size product firm, building one deployable skill set the GCC postings name, then moving laterally at the 3 to 5 year mark.
Am I too old to move into a GCC at 35?
Age is not the filter; grade mapping is. At 35 with 10 to 12 years you will be assessed against staff or manager grades, which means system design, production ownership and the ability to lead without a title. The real friction is that a service company lead title often maps to an individual contributor grade in a captive centre, so prepare for a designation that looks sideways even when the pay moves up.
Which certification helps most for GCC jobs in India?
The one that matches your target centre's stack, which you find by reading 20 of its live postings rather than by reading certification rankings. For Microsoft-heavy centres that usually means DP-700 or AZ-305 territory; for AWS-heavy centres, SAA-C03 and then DOP-C02. A credential gets your profile read. The project you can defend in a system design round is what sets the band.
How long does a service company to GCC switch actually take?
Plan for nine months and do not be surprised by twelve to eighteen while working full time. The common cause of slippage is not ability, it is losing four to six weeks to a release cycle or a client escalation. Interview loops themselves typically run three to five rounds over four to eight weeks, and data modelling or system design is where most mid-level candidates get stopped.
Is the variable component in a GCC offer reliable?
Treat it as a bonus rather than salary. Mid-level GCC offers commonly carry a 10 to 20 percent target bonus tied to a global business metric you do not influence, and payouts land above or below target depending on the parent's year. Compare offers fixed to fixed, ask whether equity starts at your grade or the one above, and check the joining bonus clawback period, which is often 12 to 24 months.
Which Indian cities have the most global capability centre jobs?
Bengaluru leads with roughly 34 to 39 percent of India's GCC units and the heaviest AI, platform and product engineering concentration. Hyderabad is next and the fastest growing tier-one city, with a pharma and life sciences tilt. Pune, Gurugram, Chennai and Ahmedabad follow, and the GIFT City and tier-two expansion is real but still small relative to Bengaluru.
What I would do in your position
If you are at 4 to 8 years in an Indian service company with one platform you are genuinely good at, I would target captive centres rather than startups, and spend the next four months deploying one system instead of collecting three certifications. The premium here is paid for depth that survives a system design round, and the Aon and EY projections above say the increment gap between captive centres and technology consulting keeps compounding whether or not you move. Below three years, stay put, get something into production, and come back at the 3 to 5 year band where the door is widest.
And if the postings you keep saving all name agents, retrieval or evaluation work, that is the skill to buy next. The AI Engineer course landing page sets out exactly what the 16 weeks cover and how the weekend evening schedule fits around a delivery job, which is the logical next step from here.
