Cloud Engineer Jobs in Mumbai 2026: Pay Bands, the Data Centre Shift and Who Is Hiring
Cloud engineer jobs in Mumbai pay roughly 6 to 32 LPA in 2026, with LinkedIn listing over 1,000 openings across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Demand splits two ways: regulated BFSI platform work in BKC and Powai, and data centre and managed services roles along the Thane to Belapur corridor in Navi Mumbai.
- An infrastructure city, not a product city. Interviews test compliance, availability and cost.
- The pay spread is brutal. Glassdoor's Mumbai page showed a median near Rs 5.9 lakh in October 2026 and a top decile near Rs 15.8 lakh.
- Navi Mumbai is where capacity is going. CBRE and CII figures put Mumbai near 0.9 GW installed, heading past 2 GW by 2030.
- RBI rules are a skill. The outsourcing directions of 28 November 2025 put audit access, incident timelines and exit testing into every bank contract.
- Rent eats the premium. Squareyards listed an average Navi Mumbai 1BHK near Rs 24,728 in 2026.
It is 11:40 PM on a Friday and the reconciliation batch at a Mumbai NBFC has failed again, because a workload moved to a new subnet without the network team hearing about it. Nobody on the bridge call can say whether the data is allowed to sit where it now sits. That meeting, repeated across Nariman Point, BKC and Airoli, is what cloud hiring here pays for.
The Mumbai cloud market in three numbers
Counts move weekly, so read these as scale, not inventory.
From LinkedIn and Glassdoor listing pages and CBRE and CII coverage, 30 October 2026.
Why Mumbai Hires Cloud Engineers for Different Reasons
The Reserve Bank of India sits on Mint Road, SEBI at BKC, the exchanges minutes away, and every bank, NBFC, insurer and payment company answering to them keeps technology leadership in this city. In Bengaluru you get asked how you would cut p99 latency. In Mumbai you get asked how you would prove to an auditor which sub-contractor touched a customer record.
The classification gate every BFSI estate runs
These estates are not on cloud or on prem. They are split, and data classification draws the line. Payment transaction data stays in India, the core ledger usually stays on hardware someone can point at, and a cyber incident at your provider has to reach the regulator within hours of detection rather than at the end of the week. Learn the shape before your first interview; the questions come straight off it.
Where a Mumbai bank's cloud workload actually sits
The gate runs per workload before migration; the three controls below apply to both sides.

Cloud Engineer Jobs in Mumbai: Who Is Actually Hiring
Checked on 30 October 2026, LinkedIn carried over 1,000 cloud engineer listings for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with postings from Searce, LTIMindtree, TCS and a Cloud Engineer opening at UPL in Navi Mumbai, plus about 284 data centre engineer listings including roles at Optiver and Pure Storage. Glassdoor listed Data Centre Engineering Operations at Amazon here, and a Cloud Engineer for Security and FinOps at Deloitte open to 2 to 4 years.
| Employer type | Typical roles | Stack | What the interview tests |
|---|---|---|---|
| BFSI captives and GCCs (BKC, Powai) | Cloud platform engineer, DevSecOps, SRE | Azure-heavy, AWS second, large on-prem estate | Change control, audit evidence, blast radius |
| IT services (Airoli, Thane, Vikhroli) | Cloud infrastructure engineer, migration consultant | Multi-cloud, VMware to cloud migrations | Breadth, certification on paper, client-facing nerve |
| Data centre operators (Thane to Belapur) | Data centre engineer, critical infrastructure ops | Power and cooling, DCIM, BGP, colocation | Shift readiness, method-of-procedure discipline |
| Fintech and trading (Lower Parel) | Platform engineer, infrastructure engineer, SRE | Kubernetes, Go or Python, low-latency networking | Code you wrote, no certificate theatre |
Hunting for the easiest door? Row two. Those firms hire at volume, screen on certifications, and will take a network engineer with a credential and two projects. It is also the lowest ceiling in the table, a trade worth making once and not twice.

Cloud Engineer Salary in Mumbai 2026: Advertised Pay Bands
Do not trust one source. Glassdoor's Mumbai page reported about Rs 5,92,500 from 272 submissions in October 2026, top decile near Rs 15.8 lakh. Indeed showed roughly Rs 10.1 lakh from 17 salaries, and Hyring's 2026 model put the median at Rs 16.2 lakh. Glassdoor is heavy with support titles; Hyring models senior engineers.
| Experience | Advertised band | Titles you will see | What moves you up the band |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 1 year | Rs 3.5 to 6 lakh | Cloud support associate, NOC engineer | An associate certification, real Linux comfort |
| 2 to 4 years | Rs 7 to 13 lakh | Cloud engineer, DevOps engineer | Terraform in production, a CI pipeline you own |
| 5 to 8 years | Rs 14 to 24 lakh | Senior cloud engineer, SRE, DevSecOps | Professional credential, Kubernetes at scale, cost ownership |
| 9 to 13 years | Rs 24 to 38 lakh | Cloud architect, platform lead | Regulated-estate design, an audit survived |
Two things close the gap between the advertised top and your actual offer: a production story you can tell in detail, and a credential the hiring manager's compliance team recognises. The second feels unfair. It is still true.
Run the rent arithmetic before you accept
Squareyards reported an average Navi Mumbai 1BHK rent near Rs 24,728 across its 2026 listings, with asks of Rs 34,000 for 425 square feet in Airoli Sector 6 and Rs 38,000 in Nerul, against Rs 10,000 to Rs 17,000 for Ulwe listings on OLX. Twenty minutes further from the station buys back a few thousand rupees a month. Take the engineer from that Friday call, as an illustration and not a real person: on Rs 5.2 LPA near Vikhroli, paying Rs 18,000 for a shared flat, they save nothing, while at Rs 12 LPA in Airoli the in-hand roughly doubles and rent rises about Rs 8,000.
Where the Jobs Physically Are: BKC, Powai and the Belapur Belt
Treat geography as part of the offer, because the commute decides your life here more than the title does. BKC holds bank and exchange technology leadership and the best-paid regulated roles; directories count 200 to 283 global capability centres in the city, with JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Nomura, UBS, Barclays, MSCI and BlackRock among them. Magicbricks data cited by Business Standard put average Powai office rent near Rs 131 per square foot per month in October 2025, up from Rs 121 a year earlier.
Cross the creek and the economics invert. Airoli's Reliable Tech Park and the Thane to Belapur belt carry the services delivery centres and the data centre campuses, at rents quoted around Rs 70 to 77 per square foot. Cheaper floors mean bigger teams, which is why a Navi Mumbai base plus a Harbour Line pass is the practical setup for most people entering this market.
Data Centre Jobs in Navi Mumbai and What the Build-Out Changes
Case study: the AWS campus at Taloja
In April 2026 Amazon Web Services filed an environmental clearance application for a data centre near Taloja in Navi Mumbai, reported by DataCenterDynamics at about 429.8 million US dollars, on 49 acres, with a stated capacity of 473 MW. Nothing there is operational, and a clearance application is not a hiring announcement.
It marks where the data centre jobs in Navi Mumbai will come from over the next five years. Colt DCS and RMZ began a 64 MW AI-ready facility that takes their Navi Mumbai campus to 86 MW, and the CBRE and CII figures have Mumbai's share of India's tier-I capacity rising from roughly 52% to 68% by 2030. A gigawatt does not run itself: each campus needs critical-infrastructure engineers on shift, network engineers who understand colocation and peering, and automation engineers. Unglamorous, hard to offshore, and the only cloud-adjacent roles here where a diploma holder with networking grounding has an open door.
Now the honest part. If you want to build software on cloud primitives, Mumbai is the third or fourth best Indian city for it, behind Bengaluru, Hyderabad and arguably Pune. It is the best city in the country for regulated infrastructure and data centre work, and an expensive compromise for everything else.

Skills and Certifications for Cloud Engineer Jobs in Mumbai
AWS jobs in Mumbai versus the Azure reality
A call, because the fence is useless here. Targeting the Navi Mumbai data centre corridor, the Airoli services firms or any fintech? Learn AWS first and pair the associate architect credential with the professional DevOps one: the SAA-C03 and DOP-C02 track is what moves offers here. Already inside a bank? Learn Azure first, because 2026 guidance on Mumbai BFSI capability centres describes Azure as dominant in regulated workloads, and the AZ-305 and AZ-400 path maps to the estate you touch.
The trade-off I accept: AWS-first costs you some credibility in an Azure shop for a year, and portability is worth more where services firms and data centre operators do the volume hiring, which is where most AWS jobs in Mumbai sit. One to skip: do not pay for the entry-level cloud practitioner exam if you already work in IT. It will not get you past a screening call an associate credential clears.
Where to put your study hours
Weighted for Mumbai BFSI and data centre interviews, not a generic cloud syllabus.
Our weighting from Mumbai job descriptions read on 30 October 2026, not a published syllabus.
DevOps jobs in Mumbai ask for three things in writing
The recurring asks across the Mumbai postings read today: Terraform or equivalent infrastructure as code, a CI system you have owned rather than used, and Kubernetes exposure past a tutorial cluster. Those are the three. DevOps jobs in Mumbai then add two local ones, because RBI cloud compliance vocabulary and PCI-DSS awareness appear explicitly in BFSI descriptions here, at a frequency you meet nowhere else in India.
Side doors are worth naming. Analytics lands on the public cloud side of the gate, so a Microsoft Fabric lakehouse or a Power BI model for PL-300 makes you useful to a platform team. AI pilots need MLOps practice around AI-300 or RAG and agent engineering, assistant rollouts need Copilot administration for AB-900, governance leans on Claude Certified Architect Foundations, and the certifications overview has the sequence.
- You optimise for the certificate, not the terminal. An interviewer will ask you to talk through a VPC peering failure. If you learned it from slides, it shows in forty seconds.
- You accept a Navi Mumbai offer without doing the commute. Do it once on a Tuesday at 9 AM, not a Sunday.
- You treat compliance questions as HR filler. In a BFSI loop they are the technical round, and not knowing what an exit plan is reads as never having shipped anything real.
A 90-Day Plan to Get Shortlisted
You have roughly 30 usable study hours a month here, because the commute takes the rest. How I would spend twelve weeks of them.
Twelve weeks, built around a Mumbai commute
Each block ends in something you can put on a CV.
Fix the fundamentals you get caught on
Linux on a real VM, subnetting, routing, DNS and TLS by hand. Deliverable: you can draw your employer's network unaided.
Build a regulated-looking estate on a free tier
Two accounts, a private subnet with no internet route, centralised logging, least-privilege roles. Deliverable: a diagram and a note on who sees what.
Put all of it in code
Terraform with remote state and a pipeline that plans on a pull request. Deliverable: a repo whose README explains a rollback.
Sit the associate exam
Book it before you feel ready, because an unbooked exam slides forever. Deliverable: the credential on your profile.
Learn the Mumbai vocabulary
RBI requirements on audit access, incident timelines and exit. Deliverable: you can answer "how would an auditor verify this?" about your repo.
Apply narrowly, not widely
Twenty applications into Airoli, Thane and Powai firms and the data centre operators. Deliverable: three first-round calls.

What I Would Do in Your Position
If you are already in Mumbai in support, networking or data centre operations, stay. The regulated estates and the Navi Mumbai campuses need the instincts you built on night shifts, and a thousand-plus listings will not thin out while capacity doubles by 2030. Get the associate credential inside ninety days, the professional DevOps one inside eighteen months, and change employer type rather than title when you want the big jump.
If you want to write software for a living instead, you are paying a rent premium for the market that rewards you least. For everyone else, the next step is the credential pair this city pays for: the AWS Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer course, live Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 to 11:00 PM IST, the same 8 to 11 PM evening you are already sitting in. A free webinar is the cheapest way to test the teaching style first.

Frequently asked questions
How many cloud engineer jobs in Mumbai are there in 2026?
On 30 October 2026, LinkedIn listed over 1,000 cloud engineer openings for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Glassdoor showed 856 for cloud support engineer, and about 284 data centre engineer roles were listed. Those counts include duplicates, so read them as scale.
What is the cloud engineer salary in Mumbai for freshers?
Entry roles are typically advertised between Rs 3.5 and 6 lakh a year, usually titled cloud support associate, NOC engineer or data centre technician. Glassdoor's Mumbai bottom decile for cloud engineer sat near Rs 3.1 lakh in October 2026.
Is AWS or Azure better for cloud jobs in Mumbai?
Guidance on Mumbai BFSI capability centres published for 2026 and 2027 describes Azure as dominant in regulated banking workloads, so Azure first if you are inside a bank. For Airoli services firms, fintechs and the Navi Mumbai data centre corridor, AWS gets more interviews.
Can I get a cloud engineer job in Mumbai without a computer science degree?
Yes, and the data centre side is the most open door. Critical infrastructure operations, colocation networking and facility engineering roles in Navi Mumbai regularly take diploma holders with electrical or networking grounding, and Airoli services firms screen mainly on certifications.
Do Mumbai banks let cloud engineers work remotely?
Rarely in full. Regulated estates keep privileged access on managed devices inside controlled networks, and the outsourcing directions of November 2025 push tighter control over who touches infrastructure and from where. Data centre operations is on-site by definition.
Is Mumbai or Pune better for a cloud career in 2026?
Pune has more product and engineering cloud roles for the money, better rent and a shorter commute. Mumbai has the regulated BFSI estates, the exchanges and the largest data centre build-out in the country, so a networking or infrastructure background pays better here.
