Career & Salary · 2026Data Analyst Salary in India 2026: Pay by Experience, Company Type and What Moves the Top of the Band
Data analyst salary in India in 2026 sits at a median near 7.4 LPA, with AmbitionBox reporting a 25th percentile around 4.5 LPA and a 90th percentile around 19.8 LPA across 38,600 salary reports. Entry level roles are commonly advertised between 3.5 and 8 LPA, while senior analysts inside global capability centres are advertised well above that.
- The median is not the market. Around that 7.4 LPA median sits a 25th percentile of 4.5 LPA and a 90th percentile of 19.8 LPA.
- Employer tier beats experience. Capability centres and product firms advertise roughly 30 to 50 percent above IT services for the same title.
- Volume is real but crowded. Naukri listed 26,108 data analyst vacancies in India on 27 September 2026.
- Certification is a shortlisting tool, not a pay lever. PL-300 costs about 4,865 rupees and helps a screener say yes.
- Staying put is expensive. Deloitte India's Talent Outlook 2026 projects an average increment of 9.1 percent.
- SQL depth plus one business domain beats a third BI tool at every band below.
You are three years into an analyst job at a services firm, you have shipped forty Power BI dashboards nobody opens on a Friday, and your appraisal letter says 8 percent. A recruiter says the market pays 14 for what you do. Both are true at once, and the gap between them is what this page is about.
Data Analyst Salary in India by Experience Band
Experience sets the floor, not the ceiling. The low end is what a services firm opens with; the high end is what a prepared candidate at a well funded employer is asked to name.
| Experience | Typically advertised range | What the listing demands |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 1 year | 3.5 to 8 LPA | Excel, SQL joins, one BI tool, a portfolio |
| 2 to 3 years | 6 to 12 LPA | Window functions, Power Query, stakeholder handling |
| 4 to 6 years | 8 to 18 LPA | Query tuning, Python automation, cohort analysis |
| 7 to 10 years | 15 to 30 LPA | Metric ownership, forecasting, managing juniors |
| 10 years and above | 24 to 40 LPA | Function ownership, budget influence, roadmap |
Collection basis: advertised ranges compiled on 27 September 2026 from public India listings and aggregators including Naukri, Glassdoor and AmbitionBox. Advertised ranges, not guarantees, and the last row rests on a thinner sample.

Entry level data analyst salary in India
Entry level data analyst salary in India is where the spread is widest, because a 3.5 LPA MIS role and an 8 LPA product analyst role carry the same title on LinkedIn. What separates them is whether you can write a query with a join, a group by and a window function without looking up the syntax. Glassdoor listed only 209 fresher specific data analyst jobs in India in September 2026, so most entry hiring runs through listings that quietly expect a year of experience.

Data Analyst Salary by Company Type in India
Data analyst salary by company type is the lever most people find too late: two analysts with identical skills can sit 60 percent apart because of who signs the payslip, and the gap widens with seniority. What the employer buys changes with the tier, from billable hours at a services firm to experiment design at a product company.
| Employer type | 0 to 1 yr | 4 to 6 yrs | 7 to 10 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indian IT services | 3.5 to 6 LPA | 7 to 12 LPA | 13 to 20 LPA |
| Analytics consulting and KPO | 4.5 to 8 LPA | 9 to 16 LPA | 15 to 25 LPA |
| Indian startup or D2C brand | 5 to 9 LPA | 10 to 18 LPA | 16 to 26 LPA |
| Global capability centre | 6 to 11 LPA | 14 to 24 LPA | 22 to 35 LPA |
| Global product company | 8 to 14 LPA | 18 to 30 LPA | 26 to 40 LPA |
Collection basis: advertised ranges compiled on 27 September 2026 from public India listings, grouped by employer type. Not guarantees. The product company row has the smallest sample and the widest variance.
Senior data analyst salary in India
Against one named source: Glassdoor's India page for Senior Data Analyst in 2026 reports an average near 12 lakh and a 90th percentile near 26.75 lakh. That top figure is what a capability centre pays someone who owns a metric in a board deck.
What Actually Drives the Top of the Band
The 90th percentile is not reached by being 12 percent better at Power BI than the person beside you. It is reached by changing what kind of problem you are trusted with, in four steps that run roughly in order.
The four steps between the median and the 90th percentile
Each step changes what you are asked to do, which is why the pay follows it.
Band figures from the ranges and AmbitionBox percentiles cited above, checked 27 September 2026. A pattern in listings, not a schedule.
Notice what is missing: no third BI tool, no fourth dashboard framework. The step that pays is where you stop answering questions and start deciding which question is worth answering. An analyst who understands claim ratios at an insurer is harder to replace than one who knows Power BI and Tableau averagely.
Which Skills and Certifications Move the Number
The opinionated version, with the trade off stated. Under three years of experience, take PL-300 this quarter: it costs about 4,865 rupees, Indian screeners recognise it because Power BI is the default enterprise BI tool here, and it forces you to learn data modelling properly. It adds nothing to your band by itself. It gets you past the filter so your SQL can do the work in round two.
Past four years with solid Power BI, skip it and put the money into the platform side, where DP-700 and Microsoft Fabric sit, because pipeline literacy turns a senior analyst into an analytics engineer. The certifications overview compares the tracks.
What the highest paid listings actually ask for
Indeed listed roughly 23,000 India vacancies combining SQL, Python, Power BI and the analyst title when we checked, and Glassdoor listed 2,759 for Power BI analysts. The pattern:
- SQL past the tutorial line. Window functions, correlated subqueries, and why a query that ran in 2 seconds now takes 90.
- Python as automation, not data science. Pandas used to kill a recurring manual report beats a half finished ML notebook.
- Power BI semantic modelling. Star schemas, DAX that survives a filter context change, incremental refresh. Chart formatting is not tested.
- AI assisted analysis. Copilot in Excel and Power BI now appears in job descriptions at large Indian corporates; its governance is what AB-900 Copilot administration covers.
360DT teaches that stack live on weekend evenings in the Data Analyst course, so the practice happens while you keep drawing your current salary.
One resume line you can adapt tonight, because vague resumes are why capable analysts get filtered: Rebuilt the regional sales model in Power BI on a star schema, cut refresh time from 42 minutes to 6, and replaced a 3 hour weekly Excel consolidation with a scheduled Python job.
How Data Analyst Salary in India Moves From Year 1 to Year 10
Pay does not climb smoothly. It sits flat through appraisals and jumps on a switch, which is why the increment number and the market number feel like they belong to different countries. Deloitte India projects 9.1 percent on average for 2026, and the top rating went to 7 percent of employees in 2025 against 10 percent a year earlier.
An illustrative pay path, built from the advertised bands above
This is what a clean run looks like. Most careers are not clean.
Year 1 to 3
Year 3 to 5
Year 5 to 8
Year 8 to 10
Illustrative only, drawn from the ranges above, checked 27 September 2026. Not a forecast, not a promise, and not what most analysts experience.
Three of those four jumps happen because the employer changed, not because the year did. If you have sat at one desk for five years and your band still starts with a single digit, the constraint is rarely your ability.

What Goes Wrong: Pay Cuts, Title Inflation and the Dashboard Trap
- The lateral move that pays less. Leaving a 9 LPA services role for a startup at 9.5 LPA with a heavier variable is a pay cut. Taking it for the learning can be right; not noticing is not.
- Title inflation. Senior Data Analyst at a 200 person services firm and at a capability centre are different jobs with a 10 lakh gap.
- The dashboard trap. Three years of requested dashboards leaves you with one year of experience repeated three times, and it is the most common reason a competent analyst stalls at the median.
- Transitions run long. A part time switch into analytics realistically takes 8 to 14 months. People who plan for four months quit at month five.
- The bottom is crowded. Those 26,108 Naukri listings are chased by a large number of freshly certified applicants, which is where a certificate is worth least.
Here is the one that catches people out. You clear four rounds at a good product firm and get a band 2 lakh below what the recruiter mentioned on the first call, because internal levelling put you a rung lower than the job description implied. Ask which level the role maps to before round two, not after the offer.
- Asked for current CTC: "My fixed is X, with a variable that has paid out unevenly. I would rather anchor on the role. What band has been approved for this position?"
- Pushed for a number: "Comparable listings for this scope run roughly A to B, and I would want the fixed and variable split before I commit."
- Offer arrives low: "The scope includes owning the retention metric end to end, which sits above where this lands. Can we look at the fixed component?" Name one, not three.

Case Study: From a 4.2 LPA Support Analyst to a 13 LPA Product Analyst
Illustrative composite. Built from typical market paths and the bands in this guide. Not a real named individual, not a 360DT student, and not an outcome claim.
Starting point. Three years in application support at a mid sized insurer in Pune, 4.2 LPA fixed. The work was already closer to analysis than support: pulling incident data from a ticketing system, maintaining a weekly Excel deck for the operations head, knowing why the claims numbers never reconciled. No Python, SQL limited to SELECT with a WHERE clause, no portfolio.
Months 1 to 6. SQL first, deliberately before Power BI: joins, window functions and query plans, practised against the ticketing data they already understood. Then Power BI properly, star schema and DAX, and PL-300 preparation on weekend evenings while working full time. Exam cleared in month 6 for about 4,865 rupees. Learning a BI tool before SQL produces someone who can make a chart but cannot answer the follow up question.
Months 7 to 9, the obstacle. Twenty two applications, four screening calls, zero second rounds. The CV said "three years in application support" and screeners stopped reading. The fix was rewriting it around the analysis already inside that role, plus one public project on claims data with the modelling choices written up. Two of the next six converted.
Months 10 to 11, the offer. Product analyst at a domestic insurtech, 13 LPA of which 11 was fixed. They almost accepted 11.5 before asking the levelling question and being moved up a rung. The domain was why they were competitive: they already spoke claims.
What it cost. Roughly 10 to 12 hours a week for eleven months, and a stalled stretch around month 8. Many equally capable people take longer or land lower. The lesson is narrow: the domain they already knew did more for their band than any tool they learned.
Is Data Analyst a Good Career in 2026?
Yes, with a shrinking floor. The pull this number and put it in a deck end of the job is genuinely being compressed by assistants that now sit inside Excel and Power BI. If your plan is to be the person who builds the requested chart, that plan is weaker than it was in 2023, and no certification fixes it.
What is not compressed is judgement: spotting that a sudden 18 percent lift is a tracking bug, designing the experiment that answers the real question. Analysts moving toward retrieval and agent engineering, AI-103 application work, cloud architecture on AWS and Azure, or MLOps, are moving into thinner, better paid markets.
So who should not bother? If you want a fixed skill set that stays still for a decade, analytics is a poor fit, and the appraisal maths above will frustrate you. That caveat is the honest half of the answer to whether data analyst is a good career in 2026.

In your position, three years in with a 9 percent letter in hand, we would spend six weeks getting SQL to where a technical round is comfortable, then apply while learning the rest. Courses accelerate that; they do not replace it. For the structured version, the Data Analyst course covers Excel, SQL, Python and Power BI with PL-300 preparation over 10 weeks on weekend evenings, and a free webinar or demo class will tell you whether it suits you.

Frequently asked questions
What is the average data analyst salary in India in 2026?
AmbitionBox puts the median data analyst salary in India near 7.4 LPA across roughly 38,600 verified reports, with a 25th percentile near 4.5 LPA and a 90th percentile near 19.8 LPA. The average is a poor guide, because one title covers MIS work and product analytics.
What is the entry level data analyst salary in India?
Entry level roles are typically advertised between 3.5 and 8 LPA. Services and MIS roles cluster at the lower end; capability centres and product companies advertise the upper end and expect SQL beyond basic queries plus a portfolio.
What is the senior data analyst salary in India after seven years?
Glassdoor's India page for Senior Data Analyst in 2026 reports an average near 12 lakh and a 90th percentile near 26.75 lakh. Listings for 7 to 10 years of experience commonly advertise 15 to 30 LPA.
Do GCCs and product companies really pay more than service companies?
Public salary reporting in September 2026 shows capability centres and product firms advertising roughly 30 to 50 percent above IT services for an equivalent title, and the gap widens with seniority. The trade off is a harder interview bar.
How much does the PL-300 certification change a data analyst's salary?
Treat it as a shortlisting tool, not a pay lever. The exam costs about 4,865 rupees in India and Indian screeners recognise it, because Power BI is the default enterprise BI tool here. No certification moves an advertised band on its own.
Am I too old to switch to data analytics at 35?
Age matters less than the gap between your years of experience and the band you enter at. Someone switching at 35 with ten years in insurance operations competes well for analyst roles in insurance and poorly for generic entry level roles.
