Cloud Engineer Jobs in Singapore 2026: Pay Bands, Who Is Hiring and the COMPASS Rule That Decides Your Offer

Cloud engineer jobs in Singapore are advertised at roughly S$4,400 to S$9,500 a month for junior to mid level, rising past S$13,000 for platform leads, and JobStreet's October 2026 page listed 4,120 cloud infrastructure engineer openings. Employers ask for AWS or Azure, Terraform and Kubernetes. Foreign hires must clear a S$5,600 Employment Pass floor and score 40 COMPASS points.

Key takeaways
  • Volume is real but noisy. JobStreet showed 4,120 cloud infrastructure listings in October 2026, Glassdoor 2,603, with agency posts double counted.
  • The money sits in the middle. ScienTec Consulting advertised an AWS platform engineer at S$6,500 to S$9,500 a month, where most hiring happens.
  • COMPASS decides more than your resume. MOM's revised Shortage Occupation List applies from 1 January 2026, and infocomm jobs get the five year Employment Pass.
  • Changi Business Park is the bank tech cluster. Asking rents there run S$4.00 to S$6.50 per square foot a month, against S$7.00 to S$11.00 at one-north.
  • Evidence beats a second cloud certification. Hold one associate badge already? Build a Terraform repo, not another badge.

You have four years on VMware, an AWS Associate badge from 2024, and a Singapore recruiter who went quiet after you sent your resume. Nothing was wrong with the resume. The quiet part is arithmetic: a points framework your interviewer cannot override, and a salary floor that rises with your age. Singapore is one of the few markets where the paperwork decides as much as the stack.

Why Singapore Is Not Just a Smaller Bengaluru

Singapore does not win on headcount. It wins on concentration: regional headquarters, hyperscaler control planes, and the Southeast Asian treasury and risk systems of most large banks, inside one island with one labour market and one regulator. Microsoft's commitment reported in early 2026 runs to about USD 5.5 billion for Singapore cloud and AI data centre infrastructure through 2029. Equinix is developing its SG6 facility at 20 MW on a roughly USD 260 million investment, Keppel plans to start building Keppel DC Singapore 9 at Genting Lane in mid 2026, and JTC with NUS is planning a low carbon data centre park on Jurong Island of up to 700 MW.

Now the caveat, because every Singapore market report lands on the same two words: land and power. The build out recruiters sell as a Singapore story increasingly lands across the causeway, and DayOne, a Singapore operator, said in April 2026 it would invest around USD 7 billion expanding its Malaysia footprint. What stays on the island is design, platform engineering, regulated workloads and the regional on call rotation.

How Many Cloud Engineer Jobs in Singapore There Really Are

JobStreet's October 2026 cloud infrastructure engineer page reported 4,120 jobs, its August 2026 cloud engineer page 4,140, and Glassdoor's Singapore page 2,603 in October against 2,880 in February. Those are not contradictory readings of one market; they are different queries and de duplication rules, plus agency listings posted three times for one role. A standing mid four figure count means hiring here is permanent rather than a spike, so you are not racing a window.

The agency share matters more. ScienTec Consulting, Talentsis, Maestro Human Resource and Elliott Moss Consulting all appeared on 2026 cloud listings, which makes a hunt from outside Singapore partly a recruiter relationship exercise. Treat DevOps jobs in Singapore as the same pipeline: one 2026 salary guide puts the mid level DevOps to SRE gap at the larger platform firms at S$1,500 to S$3,000 a month, created mostly by on call ownership.

From advertised 2026 listings and salary guides: Talentsis entry level S$4,400 to S$6,000, ScienTec Consulting AWS platform S$6,500 to S$9,500, lead level S$13,000 to S$16,700. Advertised ranges, not guarantees. Checked 28 October 2026.

Experience Advertised monthly Who posts here What you own

10 years plus S$13,000 to S$16,700 Platform leadership, banks and product firms Standards, vendors, headcount

Self reported Glassdoor medians for Singapore DevOps engineers in 2026 put GovTech near S$9,000 a month in a S$7,000 to S$11,000 range, DBS Bank near S$8,000 and NCS near S$7,000. Small samples, some mixing base with bonus, so rank employers with them rather than price yourself. Ask recruiters two things: base or total, and does it include the annual wage supplement.

Which Companies Hire Cloud Engineers, and Where They Sit

Rent sorts Singapore employers by type, which makes geography a hiring signal. Broker tables for 2026 put Changi Business Park asking rents at roughly S$4.00 to S$6.50 per square foot a month, a park long favoured by banks' technology and operations teams. one-north asks about S$7.00 to S$11.00, reflecting the research estate around NUS, and Mapletree Business City near S$7.30 to S$9.20. When a recruiter says Changi Business Park, guess the rest: regulated workload, change windows, an auditor in the building.

Four employer types, four different jobs. Integrators and managed service providers, NCS and Kyndryl among them, hire the most volume, pay the least per year of experience, and are the realistic first door without local experience. Banks and insurers pay better, move slower, and want evidence you have worked inside a change process. Regional product firms and hyperscaler professional services want depth in one platform plus customer facing ability, the profile a forward deployed engineering role selects for. Operators such as Equinix and Keppel hire facility engineers, and a 2026 Singapore data centre salary guide says talent there is scarce enough that employers recruit from Australia, India and Southeast Asia. Real opening, different career: data centre jobs in Singapore are electrical and shift based, and transfer poorly back into platform engineering.

Employment Pass and COMPASS Rules for Tech Jobs in Singapore

Candidates skip this section, and it kills most applications. Without citizenship or permanent residence you need an Employment Pass, scored by a framework called COMPASS. Your interview performance does not enter the score.

Employment Pass and COMPASS, at a glance

Check these four before spending a week on an application.

S$5,600
2026 EP salary floor, most sectors, younger candidate
S$6,200
Higher floor for financial services roles

Minimum COMPASS score to pass

EP duration MOM lists for eligible infocomm jobs

From 2026 Employment Pass guidance and MOM's COMPASS pages, checked 28 October 2026. Floors rise with age, near S$10,700 by 45. Confirm with MOM.

Two details outrank the rest. The floor rises with age, so a 38 year old and a 27 year old are not competing on the same terms for one requisition. And MOM's revised Shortage Occupation List applies to applications from 1 January 2026, with third party summaries of it including cloud architect, engineer and specialist alongside software developer. A listed role can earn a C5 skills bonus, usually the gap between borderline and approved. Sources disagree on whether it is 10 or 20 points, since it turns on your nationality's concentration in the employer's professional workforce, so take that arithmetic from MOM.

What usually goes wrong here
  • You apply to a 20 person startup. COMPASS rewards workforce diversity and local employment support, so one resume passes at a 2,000 person bank and fails at a 20 person startup.
  • You negotiate yourself under the floor. Bonuses and allowances do not count toward the qualifying salary. Only fixed monthly pay does.
  • The employer picks the wrong occupation code. MOM verifies declared duties against the shortage list, so the title must match the work.
  • You quit first. Nobody should resign in Chennai or Pune on a recruiter's enthusiasm. Wait for the in principle approval.

Skills and Certifications Singapore Employers Ask For

Listings in 2026 converge on a short stack: AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD and infrastructure as code. Azure shows up disproportionately in government linked and enterprise roles, which matters if you have been AWS only, because that share of this market is large.

What listings ask for Why it matters in Singapore How to get provable
AWS at associate depth Default for product and agency roles SAA-C03, then build, via a live SAA-C03 and DOP-C02 program
Azure architecture Heavy in government linked estates AZ-305 and AZ-400 on the Azure architect and DevOps track
Terraform and Kubernetes The day job; banks make you read a plan output A public repo with modules, remote state, a failed apply you fixed
Change and audit discipline Regulated workloads dominate the top bands Narrate one change window and one rollback
Data platform adjacency Fabric work sits beside bank cloud teams DP-700 via a Microsoft Fabric data engineering course
AI workload plumbing Hyperscaler spend lands on inference and agents RAG and agent engineering, or MLOps with AI-300

Do not buy a second cloud certification

If you already hold one associate level cloud certification, a second from a different vendor is close to worthless here, and hiring managers read it as indecision. What moves an offer is production ownership: a Terraform repository someone else could run, a cost reduction you can quantify, a postmortem you wrote. The trade off is real, since multi cloud breadth helps in consultancy work where you get staffed onto whatever the client bought, so if you are targeting an integrator, collect both. The exception is governance, because enterprises deploying agents now ask who owns the controls, which is why architect level Claude certification and Copilot and agent administration now appear outside AI teams. The certifications overview maps which exam sits where.

What S$8,000 a Month Actually Leaves You

Back to the VMware engineer from the opening. Say the offer lands at S$8,000, mid band, a bank adjacent platform team in Changi Business Park. Cost of living summaries for 2026 put a single person's expenses excluding rent near S$1,480 a month, citing June 2026 Numbeo data. Rent decides the rest: expat guides list one bedroom condos at about S$2,400 to S$3,200 outside the central region and S$3,800 to S$5,500 in the core central region, while a room in an HDB flat runs roughly S$1,200 to S$1,600. So a S$2,800 condo plus living costs leaves around S$3,700 before tax. Take the HDB room and you clear well over S$5,000, which is how most people arriving alone make the first two years pay. Employment Pass holders do not contribute to CPF, so the headline sits closer to take home than an Indian reader expects.

Your First 90 Days Hunting Cloud Engineer Jobs in Singapore

The illustrative path for the engineer in the opening: four years of infrastructure experience, one associate certification, no Singapore network, applying from India. A composite scenario, not anyone's result.

A 90 day run at the Singapore market

Paperwork and proof in parallel; the paperwork is slower.

Wk 1-2

Score yourself before you apply

Check your salary against the floor for your age, and whether your targets are large enough to score on diversity. Deliverable is 25 employers with 500 plus Singapore staff.

Wk 3-5

Build one repository that proves production thinking

A multi account AWS landing zone in Terraform, remote state, a pipeline running plan on pull requests. Deliverable is a repo link for your resume.

Wk 5-8

Close the Kubernetes and pipeline gap

Rejections here come from shallow container answers, not architecture. Run a cluster you did not build with a wizard, break the ingress, fix it. Deliverable is an incident note.

Wk 7-12

Interview regulated, negotiate on fixed pay

Banks test process discipline harder than algorithms, so bring a change window, a rollback and a cost story with numbers. Work the agencies posting the roles, not only the portals, and push base over bonus, since only fixed pay counts toward the floor.

From 2026 listing requirements and Employment Pass guidance, checked 28 October 2026. Illustrative scenario, not a guaranteed outcome.

One scheduling note, because it affects anyone reading from Singapore. All 360DT live courses run Saturday and Sunday, 8 to 11 PM IST, which is 10:30 PM to 1:30 AM Singapore time. That is past midnight for half the session, so from the island, treat the live slot as the real constraint it is. Preparing from India before a move, it is an ordinary weekend evening.

In your position I would run both tracks and refuse to start applying until each exists, because candidates who build only proof get good interviews and no pass, and candidates who chase only eligibility get a pass for a job they cannot do. If proof is the thinner half, start with the live AWS Solutions Architect and DevOps course, which ends in the SAA-C03 and DOP-C02 evidence these employers screen on.

Frequently asked questions

How many cloud engineer jobs in Singapore are there in 2026?

JobStreet's October 2026 cloud infrastructure engineer page reported 4,120 jobs and Glassdoor's Singapore page showed 2,603 that month. Aggregators include agency duplicates, so read the mid four figure level as permanent demand, not a precise count.

What is a cloud engineer salary in Singapore for a mid level role?

Advertised mid level ranges in 2026 cluster around S$6,500 to S$9,500 a month, with a ScienTec Consulting AWS platform listing at exactly that. Entry level sits nearer S$4,400 to S$6,000, lead level at S$13,000 to S$16,700.

Do I need an Employment Pass to work as a cloud engineer in Singapore?

Yes, unless you are a citizen or permanent resident, and your employer applies for it. 2026 guidance puts the qualifying floor near S$5,600 a month, S$6,200 in financial services, rising with age, plus at least 40 COMPASS points.

Does a cloud role qualify for the COMPASS shortage occupation bonus?

MOM's revised Shortage Occupation List applies from 1 January 2026, and third party summaries include cloud architect, engineer and specialist. The C5 bonus turns on your nationality's concentration in the employer's professional workforce, and sources differ on 10 versus 20 points, so verify with MOM.

Can I get a cloud engineer job in Singapore from India without local experience?

Most often through systems integrators and managed service providers, which hire volume and are large enough to score well on COMPASS. Small startups are hardest, since the framework rewards workforce diversity and local hiring.

Are data centre jobs in Singapore still growing in 2026?

Capacity is still being added: Equinix is developing SG6 at 20 MW, Keppel starts KDC SGP 9 in mid 2026, and JTC with NUS plans a Jurong Island park of up to 700 MW. Land and power limits push much regional capacity to Malaysia.
