Anthropic's four Claude certifications are not open to the general public. Registration is gated on your employer, not on your skill. Here is exactly who qualifies, why a personal email address is rejected at signup, what the free Registered tier actually changes, and the three honest options if you are currently blocked.
- You cannot register as an individual. All four Claude certification exams require a work email on a domain belonging to an organisation in the Claude Partner Network. Personal email addresses are rejected.
- It is an organisation-level application, not a personal one. Someone at your company has to apply — you cannot join yourself.
- Joining is free at the Registered tier, and any organisation bringing Claude to market can apply.
- Many people are already eligible and do not know it. Check before you assume you are blocked.
- The credential belongs to you, not your employer — so it travels with you if you move.
- Anthropic Academy is completely separate, free, and open to anyone with an email address. It issues completion certificates, not certifications.
Almost every guide to Claude certification tells you the exam codes, the pass mark and the fee. Very few tell you the thing you need first: whether you are allowed to sit the exam at all. For a large share of the people searching for this, the answer today is no — and no amount of preparation changes it.
This guide covers all four credentials — CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-F and CCAR-P — and it is written to be useful whether you turn out to be eligible or not.
Who can actually register
The Claude Certification Program is delivered through Pearson VUE, but you do not book it there the way you would book an AWS or Microsoft exam. Registration runs through the Anthropic Partner Academy, and Pearson VUE's own program page states the position plainly: certification is open to organisations in the Claude Partner Network, and candidates register at the Anthropic Partner Academy to begin scheduling.
In practice that produces one hard requirement:
You need a work email address on a domain that belongs to an organisation in the Claude Partner Network. A Gmail, Outlook or other personal address will not get you through signup, regardless of how much Claude experience you have.
This catches out three groups in particular: independent developers and freelancers, consultants operating through a personal brand, and employees of companies that simply have not joined the network. If you are in one of those groups, the paid exams are currently closed to you.
It is worth being blunt about why that feels wrong. These are skills-based exams — proctored, identity-verified, scored against a published blueprint. Gating them on your employer's commercial relationship with Anthropic is a partner-program decision, not an assessment one. But it is the rule as it stands.
Check before you assume you are blocked
The most common mistake we see is people concluding they are ineligible without checking. The Claude Partner Network launched in March 2026 with a $100 million commitment from Anthropic, and the Services Track opened in June 2026. A lot of consultancies, systems integrators and software firms joined early and never announced it internally.
Before you rule yourself out:
- Ask whoever owns the Anthropic or Claude relationship at your company — usually someone in the AI practice, the platform team, or partnerships.
- Try signing up with your work email. If your domain is recognised, you are in.
- Check whether your company appears in Anthropic's partner directory or lists Claude among its practice areas publicly.
If your organisation is a member, you may also be entitled to more than exam access: members get Anthropic Partner Academy access, which includes free official preparation courses for the certification exams, and tiered partners receive a discounted rate on a first attempt.
How an organisation joins — and what it costs
Getting started is free. Any organisation bringing Claude to market can apply to the Claude Partner Network at claude.com/partners, entering at the Registered level.

Two things follow from this that matter to an individual candidate.
First, the entry tier carries a commitment to certify people. That is not a barrier to you — it is an argument for you. A company that joins needs certified practitioners, and you are volunteering to be one. This is a much easier internal conversation than "please buy me a course".
Second, you cannot do it yourself. A partner application is made by an organisation, on a company domain. If you are a sole trader without a company domain, this route is closed unless you incorporate and genuinely bring Claude to market.
The other requirement nobody mentions
Partner Network membership gets you to the booking page. There is a second condition that applies to the credential itself: Anthropic states that certifications require Claude use within the past 90 days, and that certifications belong to individuals rather than firms.
That second half is genuinely good news, and it is the strongest argument for going through the effort. The credential is yours. If you change employer, you keep it — even if your new employer is not a partner. Your eligibility to sit the exam depends on your employer; your credential does not.
If you are blocked: three honest options
There is no workaround, and you should be suspicious of anyone selling one. What follows is what actually helps.
1. Make the internal case for joining
This is the highest-value route and the most overlooked. Membership is free, the entry tier explicitly wants certified practitioners, and partners get Partner Academy access plus discounted first attempts. Frame it as a capability investment with no licence cost, not as a personal training request. If your company sells services around AI at all, it probably qualifies.
2. Build the skill now, certify when you are eligible
The exams test real engineering and architecture judgement, not trivia. Nothing about being ineligible today stops you learning agentic architecture, MCP, context engineering or the Claude API — and none of that expires. People who prepare first and certify when the door opens are in a better position than people who scramble when it does.

3. Use Anthropic Academy, which has no gate at all
This is the part most "is Claude certification free?" articles get muddled. Anthropic runs two entirely separate tracks, and conflating them causes most of the confusion online.

Anthropic Academy is genuinely free, genuinely from Anthropic, and worth doing. It is not the same as being Claude Certified, and anyone telling you otherwise is either confused or selling something. Equally, anyone claiming to sell you an official Claude certification is not doing so — Anthropic issues the credential, through Pearson VUE, to eligible candidates only.
Does the gate apply to all four exams?
Yes. The requirement is the same across the family.

A note on codes, because it causes real confusion: the Architect Foundations exam launched in March 2026 under the shorthand CCA-F and was assigned the code CCAR-F when it moved into the Pearson VUE catalogue in July 2026. Same credential, no rename. If you see both, you are not missing an exam.
What might change
Anthropic has moved quickly here: one partner exam in March 2026, four proctored exams by July 2026, delivery migrated to Pearson VUE, and a Services Track added in June. A program expanding that fast may well open to the public later.
We are not going to predict that it will, and you should treat any confident claim that it is about to as speculation. What we can say is that the requirement is set by Anthropic and can change, so if you are blocked today it is worth re-checking rather than assuming the position is permanent.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get Claude certified without a partner company?
Not at present. All four Claude certification exams require registration through the Anthropic Partner Academy using a work email on a domain belonging to a Claude Partner Network organisation. There is no individual registration route and no paid workaround. Your realistic options are to have your employer join — it is free at the Registered tier — or to build the skills and certify once you are eligible.
Is the Claude Certified Architect exam open to the public?
No. CCAR-F and CCAR-P are gated the same way as the Associate and Developer exams. Pearson VUE's program page states that certification is open to organisations in the Claude Partner Network and that candidates register through the Anthropic Partner Academy.
Why was my personal email rejected?
Because eligibility is checked at the domain level. Registration requires an email on a domain belonging to a partner organisation, so Gmail, Outlook and similar personal addresses are refused at signup. It is not a fault with your account.
How much does it cost my company to join the Claude Partner Network?
Nothing to start. Anthropic states that getting started is free, with new applicants entering at the Registered level alongside a minimum commitment to 10 certified practitioners. Membership also unlocks Anthropic Partner Academy access, including official preparation courses, and tiered partners receive a discounted rate on a first certification attempt.
If I leave my employer, do I lose the certification?
No. Anthropic states that certifications belong to individuals rather than firms, so the credential and its Credly badge travel with you. What depends on your employer is your eligibility to sit or re-sit an exam, not the credential you already hold.
Are the free Anthropic Academy certificates the same thing?
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding. Anthropic Academy is free, open to anyone with an email address, self-paced, and issues a certificate of completion. The Claude Certification Program is paid, partner-gated, proctored, identity-verified, and issues a certification with a Credly badge. Both are legitimately from Anthropic; they prove different things.
