Career & Salary · 2026Business Analyst Salary in India 2026: Pay by Experience, Company Tier and the Data Skills That Split the Band
Business analyst salary in India in 2026 runs from roughly Rs 2.8 lakh for trainee titles to Rs 22.9 lakh for lead analysts, with the median near Rs 10 lakh on AmbitionBox figures read in October 2026. What splits the band is whether you only write documents or can also query data.
- The average is useless here. Payscale reports Rs 6,88,693, Indeed Rs 8,95,504 and AmbitionBox about Rs 10.2 lakh for the same title.
- Years alone stop working near Rs 12 lakh. The senior band of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 16.5 lakh needs a change in what you produce.
- Employer tier beats promotion. AmbitionBox showed Rs 6.4 lakh to Rs 7.1 lakh at TCS against Rs 12.5 lakh to Rs 13.8 lakh at Infosys in October 2026.
- SQL is the hiring filter, not generative AI. Across AccioJob's 328 Indian analytics ads: Excel 81%, SQL 60%, generative AI about 2%.
- The increment cycle will not fix your number. Aon projects 9.1% on average for 2026, and 6.6% in consulting and services.
Picture a business analyst five years into a mid-size general insurer in Pune, on 11 LPA. She cannot answer "what is our claims leakage by channel this quarter" without asking the data team and waiting two days. That one dependency is why her offers land at 12 to 14 while a colleague with identical years and working SQL fields 18s.
Business Analyst Salary in India in 2026: What the Platforms Say
Three sources read on 27 October 2026 disagree by Rs 3.5 lakh on the same title. Payscale puts the India average at Rs 6,88,693, Indeed India at Rs 8,95,504, and AmbitionBox, on about 1.5 lakh self-reported salaries, at roughly Rs 10.2 lakh. That spread is the title, not bad data: "business analyst" covers a 22-year-old writing user stories in a service account and someone at a product company who owns the activation metric. Work from the bands.

Business Analyst Salary in India by Experience
Senior BA appears twice because that band opens at three years for some employers and eight for others, and the choice is worth more than the years.
| Experience | Usual title | Reported band (LPA) | What the band assumes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 1 year | Trainee / Associate BA | Rs 2.8L to Rs 6.1L | Excel, document a requirement |
| 1 to 3 years | Business Analyst | Rs 7.0L to Rs 7.7L | Own a module, basic SQL reads |
| 3 to 6 years | Business Analyst | Rs 8.7L to Rs 9.7L | Elicit solo, build a Power BI report |
| 3 to 6 years | Senior Business Analyst | Rs 13.0L to Rs 14.3L | Window functions, own a metric definition |
| 6 to 9 years | Senior Business Analyst | Rs 15.0L to Rs 16.5L | Own a domain, brief a steering committee |
| 9+ years | Lead BA / BA Manager | Rs 17.9L to Rs 22.9L | Run a semantic model, own the budget |
Collection basis: self-reported and advertised ranges on AmbitionBox read 27 October 2026, cross-checked against Indeed India's senior BA average of Rs 13.95 lakh (109 salaries) and Glassdoor's India senior BA range of Rs 8.75 lakh to Rs 16.8 lakh. Market ranges, not offers.
Look at rows three and four: same years, Rs 4.5 lakh apart. Between year three and six the band moves about 26%, roughly what the 9.1% average increment compounds to, so those years pay you for showing up. If your output is a document somebody else turns into a decision, the market prices you as a translator.
Business Analyst Salary by Company Type in India
Four named employers, with figures I could read today. Same title at all four.
| Employer | Reported BA pay | What you trade |
|---|---|---|
| TCS | Rs 6.4L to Rs 7.1L | Scale and process, slow bands, strong resume brand |
| Accenture | Rs 8.9L to Rs 9.9L | Client variety, long project cycles |
| Infosys | Rs 12.5L to Rs 13.8L | Higher band, usually domain or niche tracks |
| Deloitte | About Rs 12.5L average | Consulting pay with consulting hours and travel |
Collection basis: AmbitionBox employer pages for TCS, Accenture and Infosys, plus 6figr for Deloitte (355 profiles, 12 October 2026), read 27 October 2026. Self-reported band shapes, not offers.
Two caveats. Captive centres and product companies do not publish separate BA bands, so any clean "GCC business analyst salary" figure is an estimate. And if you are waiting on the appraisal cycle: Aon put its consulting and services segment at 6.6%, the lowest on its list, and Deloitte's India Talent Outlook 2026, published 6 April 2026, noted technology firms trimming projections by 10 to 70 basis points.

Business Analyst Salary for Freshers in India
Almost nobody starts as a business analyst. You start as a trainee or associate, titles AmbitionBox puts at Rs 2.8 lakh to Rs 6.1 lakh. A recruiter quoting a 10 LPA fresher number is quoting the all-experience average and hoping you do not check.
What moves a fresher to the top of that band is boring: a live query round you do not fumble, and one Power BI report where the data model is the work rather than three charts on a flat table.

That 81% Excel figure is the one most career advice skips. Learn the AI tooling because it makes you faster, not because it shortlists you. The PL-300 track covering Excel, SQL, Python and Power BI drills the live query and data-model work, the gap most BA resumes carry. Also read: PL-300 Certification Cost in 2026.
What Actually Moves the Top of the Band

The certification I would not buy yet
CBAP is the credential the business analysis community talks about most and Indian job descriptions ask for least. At a product company or captive centre nobody asks about BABOK knowledge areas, and somebody asks you to write a window function on a shared screen. Spend the money on a certification that maps to a tool round and revisit CBAP past Rs 18 lakh, accepting that this is the wrong call if your next move is pure consulting. Past Rs 18 lakh employers pay for knowing how motor claims leakage behaves, the half our Pune analyst owns.
What to say when the band question comes
- Expected CTC: "For a senior BA role with metric ownership I am at 17 to 19 lakh fixed. Glassdoor's India senior BA range runs to about 16.8 lakh, and I arrive with the domain built."
- A flat offer: "I can work with that if we add variable pay and a six-month review tied to the metric I will own. Can that go in the letter?" Asked for current CTC, redirect once: "I would rather anchor on the role's band, because mine reflects a services structure."
- Never quote the 9.1% average increment as your target: it is a planning figure, not a lateral-hire benchmark.
- The sideways move that pays less. Services BA into product analytics often means a title demotion and sometimes a flat or lower CTC for the first year. People who refuse the title drop often stay in the mid band another four years.
- Six months becomes fourteen, because weekend plans assume weekends. And some employers hand out "Senior BA" at three years on a Rs 9 lakh band, so check the band, not the title.
- Entry is harder than the internet suggests. A certificate and three dashboard screenshots will not clear a live SQL round, and nothing here guarantees a hike.
Business Analyst vs Data Analyst Salary in India: Where the Curves Split
Early on the two pay about the same, and the BA sometimes starts higher because the role rewards communication a fresher can demonstrate in an interview. The curves separate around year four. A data analyst's ceiling rises with the stack beneath them, because the next rung is data engineering and Microsoft Fabric and DP-700 work puts them on a different ladder. A BA's ceiling rises with ownership, and without ownership it does not move.
So the question is which ladder you can climb from where you sit. Domain depth with weak tooling makes the BA ladder faster. If you have neither, the data analyst route has more entry volume.

From 7.5 LPA BA to 18 LPA: An Illustrative Composite Path
A composite built from typical market paths, not a real person and not a promise. Starting point: four years as a BA at an Indian IT services firm on a health insurance account, Rs 7.5 lakh fixed. Knows claims adjudication rules cold. Cannot write a join.
Months 1 to 3: SQL only. Not Python, not a BI tool, not a certificate. Joins, aggregation, subqueries, window functions, to where a shared-screen round is survivable. The obstacle is ego: seniority makes it uncomfortable to be bad at what juniors do easily. Deliverable: twelve queries answering real claims questions.
Months 4 to 7: Power BI, then PL-300. The Rs 4,800 or so exam fee is the smallest cost; the hours are the real one. Deliverable is one report where the model, not the visual, is the work: claims leakage by channel and month. 360DT's live Data Analyst programme runs this sequence over ten weekends.
Months 8 to 11: ownership, internally first. Volunteer for the metric finance and operations disagree about. That is the resume line that moves you: "owned claims leakage reporting for a 2.4 crore book", not "proficient in Power BI".
Where it lands. Senior and analytics BA roles at captive centres and mid-size product firms, where Glassdoor's India senior BA range runs roughly Rs 8.75 lakh to Rs 16.8 lakh. An 18 LPA landing sits at the top and needs a competing offer. Plenty land at 13 or 14.
On AI: governing Copilot agents is now a line on senior job descriptions, which the AB-900 track covers, the CCAO-F route is the lighter option, and agent builders sit closer to RAG engineering. None of it shortlists a BA today.

Frequently asked questions
What is the average business analyst salary in India in 2026?
On figures checked in October 2026, Payscale reports an India average of Rs 6,88,693, Indeed India Rs 8,95,504 and AmbitionBox about Rs 10.2 lakh from roughly 1.5 lakh self-reported salaries. The bands by experience are more useful, because the title covers several different jobs.
What is the business analyst salary for freshers in India?
Entry titles rather than the BA title. Trainee and associate roles on AmbitionBox pay Rs 2.8 lakh to Rs 6.1 lakh, and the one to three year band Rs 7 lakh to Rs 7.7 lakh. Fresher quotes above Rs 8 lakh are usually the all-experience average in disguise.
Is business analyst a good career in India in 2026?
It has volume: foundit.in listed 14,012 business analyst roles in India on 16 October 2026. The caution is the ceiling. If your output stays a document rather than a decision, reported bands flatten in the low teens.
Do business analysts earn more than data analysts in India?
Early on they are close, and BAs sometimes start higher because the role rewards communication a fresher can show in an interview. The curves split around year four: a data analyst's ceiling rises with the technical stack, a BA's with ownership.
Am I too old to move into a business analyst role at 35?
Domain experience is the one thing this role pays for that a course cannot teach, so arriving at 35 from banking operations or manufacturing is a normal route, not a handicap. What goes wrong is the entry band: lateral entrants often take a title drop or a flat first year.
Does a PL-300 or CBAP certification increase a business analyst's salary in India?
No certification changes a band by itself, and no training provider can promise it will. The PL-300 gets you through a tool round: Power BI appeared in 43% of the 328 analytics job descriptions AccioJob analysed. CBAP carries more weight in Gulf and US consulting than in Indian hiring.
What I would do in your position
If you are in the Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh band with real domain knowledge and no SQL, stop reading salary guides and spend ninety days on queries, then pick one exam from the full certifications overview. The experience table above maps who pulled that lever. If you have the SQL and not the domain, pick an industry and stay long enough to have opinions about its numbers.
The weekend-evening format exists for this situation, because the people who need it are already employed. If that gap is the one you recognised, the Data Analyst course with PL-300 preparation is where to start, and a free webinar or a demo class will tell you in an hour whether the pace fits.
